COMPANY OVERVIEW:
As a full-time, on-site position reporting directly to the Assistant Plant Manager or another designated individual for the Patio Doors department, the Doors Department Leadhand is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the door production area, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality output, and adherence to safety standards. This role provides hands-on leadership, supports team members, and coordinates production activities to meet schedules and performance targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, mentor, and support production staff on the floor.
- Assign tasks and ensure proper staffing across workstations.
- Train new employees on processes, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
- Coordinate and monitor daily door manufacturing activities.
- Ensure production targets and deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions quickly.
- Ensure all products meet company specifications and customer requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections and address defects or inconsistencies.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Enforce all workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure proper use of PPE.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near-misses promptly.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize workflow.
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in implementing new processes, tools, or equipment.
- Monitor material usage and coordinate with inventory or supply teams.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of doors, components, and hardware.
- Provide regular updates to supervisors on production status and issues.
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., windows, shipping, maintenance).
JOB DESCRIPTION 2 QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5+ years of experience in windows & doors manufacturing or a similar industry.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Strong understanding of door manufacturing processes and materials.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read production drawings and work orders.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and tools used in door production.
- Basic computer skills (production tracking systems, Excel, etc.).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Manufacturing/plant environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
- Standing, lifting, and physical activity are required.
- May require overtime or shift work depending on production needs.
