Position Overview
Are you a self-starter who is motivated by providing services to the public? If so, the City of Kamloops’ Transportation Division is looking for someone to join their team as a permanent, full-time Transportation Technician I. This position works with a dynamic team on traffic operations work within the community. This role assists in the approval of transportation permits, reviewing traffic control plans, oversize vehicle permits, and right-of-way usage permits. Other tasks include receiving and investigating inquires and complaints related to traffic/transportation matters, conducting speed studies and traffic counts to help make important transportation engineering and planning decisions. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Completion of a two-year diploma in Engineering from a recognized technical institute.
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in traffic or transportation technical engineering.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 5.
- Ability to obtain Traffic Control Person (TCP) Certification within a year.
For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. This is a CUPE local 900 position.
Please note that this position will only be filled if we are unable to fill competition Transportation Tech II (Requisition #1954).
Hourly Rate
$39.990 (2025)
Hours & Days of Work
Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM This position is eligible for a modified schedule (earn an extra day off every third week) once probation is complete.
