Senior Process Automation Technologist
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Process Automation Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation planning, design, estimating, scheduling, inspection and maintenance functions of the process automation, communication, and control systems. This is a technically challenging position that offers the opportunity to work on complex automation and control systems while contributing to critical infrastructure and operations.
You will exercise a high degree of independence, applying your expertise in process control, system design, andtroubleshooting to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in operational and capital project planning
- Lead assigned projects by preparing project and maintenance schedules and supervise work progress
- Monitor system performance and respond to failures or malfunctions
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, diagnose issues and coordinate repairs to ensure system reliability
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot SCADA systems and related infrastructure
- Develop, analyze and implement RTUs, PLCs, and associated field instrumentation
- Develop and modify HMI systems, graphical interfaces, and maintain guidelines and recommendations
- Maintain and plan cyber security framework for process automation systems
- Oversee utilization of the remote Radio System Management Software, maintain the licenses and perform diagnostics
- Conduct site inspections and system testing (including factory and site acceptance testing)
- ·Coordinate system upgrades, modifications, and related projects
- Liaise with internal staff, vendors, consultants, and third-party organizations
- Provide technical guidance and support as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of industrial software applications and computer operating systems related to SCADA and control systems
- Strong knowledge of municipal engineering design principles, standards and methods
- Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, standards and bylaws
- Awareness of cybersecurity regulations and best practices related to SCADA and control systems
- Awareness of occupational hazards and safety practices related to the work
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to take corrective action
- Ability to prepare and maintain technical reports, records, and documentation
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment related to SCADA and control systems
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Considerable related experience in SCADA, automation, or process control systems
- Eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist (ASTTBC) in British Columbia
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
