About the Role
Our Solid Waste department is currently recruiting for a Solid Waste Coordinator. This position will have a significant role in developing and implementing the District’s solid waste management and reduction initiatives and related policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in developing and implementing corporate solid waste management programs that increase waste diversion and/or reduce waste production, monitoring the effectiveness of these programs and recommending improvements.
As the successful candidate one of your key capacities will be a strong technical knowledge balanced with the ability to develop communication strategies ensuring effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have demonstrated experience drafting reports and be comfortable making presentations to senior officials and the public. Additionally, you will have experience developing databases, maintaining records and supervising one or two subordinates. Experience with solid waste operations and/or waste reduction initiatives would be an asset.
To thrive in this position your competencies and skills in the following areas are vital: Communications, critical thinking, organizational awareness, planning, sound writing and presentation skills.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Diploma in Environmental Studies or Public Relations, plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s license is required.
Details
Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $43.65 to $51.51 per hour (2026 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
