Position Overview
The City of Kamloops is seeking a permanent, full-time Transportation Engineer to provide technical expertise and project management leadership in the planning, operation, and development of its transportation functions. If you are looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of transportation in a growing community, then this position may be for you! Reporting to the Transportation Manager, this role is responsible for a broad range of transportation engineering functions, including traffic operations and studies, reviewing Traffic Impact Assessments (TIA's), active transportation initiatives, transportation demand management programs, road safety improvements, and transit operations.
The Transportation Engineer works closely with internal departments, consultants, developers, and the public to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable movement of people and goods throughout the City. This position plays a key role in advancing strategic transportation plans, managing transportation-related capital projects and programs, and supporting Council and community decision-making through technical analysis and recommendations. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering expertise, project management skills, collaboration, and communication to help shape the City's transportation system for current and future needs.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
- University degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional member of, or ability to become a professional member of Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia OR registered as an Engineer-in-Training in the Province of British Columbia.
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills and public relations skills.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Transportation Design/Traffic Engineering.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or equivalent).
The annual salary for this position is based on a pay grade system starting at $123,803.55 and ranging to $134,121.00. The City offers a comprehensive benefit package including generous vacation and an Earned Days Off program. Along with these benefits, the City provides access to fitness facilities, various instructed programs and training, and community volunteer/engagement opportunities. This is an exempt Management position.
