About the Opportunity
Based out of the beautiful Okanagan in Kelowna, BC, the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has an exciting opportunity for a strategic, people-focused communications leader to guide corporate communications, media relations, public engagement and issues management across a dynamic local government environment. This is a continuous full-time position.
As Manager, Communications, you will play a key role in how the RDCO connects with residents, partners, media and communities. Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, you will provide trusted advice, lead communication planning, support high-profile initiatives, while ensuring clear, timely and consistent public information.
What you will lead:
- Corporate communication strategies, campaigns and public relations initiatives;
- Media relations, spokesperson support and proactive issues management;
- Key messages, speeches, presentations, reports and public-facing communication materials;
- Emergency communications as needed;
- Digital communication channels, including website, intranet, and social media content;
- Collaborative relationships with employees, partners, media, Syilx Okanagan communities and other levels of government; and
- A team of communications professionals, including coaching, work planning and performance support.
About You
You will have a degree in communications, public relations or a related discipline. Additionally, a minimum of seven years of progressive communications experience, including leading strategy from concept to delivery, public engagement certification, such as IAP2, or an equivalent combination of experience. You will have media relations experience, including acting as a spokesperson, and excellent writing, judgement, leadership, relationship-building and digital communications skills.
About the Benefits
In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $118,295.50 (min) - $131,428.00 (mid) - $144,560.50 (max), plus a comprehensive benefits package. The RDCO’s compensation philosophy is to pay in the middle of the range for a fully qualified candidate.
