JOB SUMMARY:
The Personal Trainer supports safe and effective recreation services by developing and delivering personalized training programs. The incumbent monitors client safety, ensures clients observe facility rules, maintains and monitors equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations, and provides First Aid to facility users when required. Performs other related duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
High School (Grade 12). Personal Training Certificate or equivalent (BCRPA, canfitpro, ACSM, NSCA, CFES or ACE). Current membership or eligibility for membership with a Provincial, National or International Fitness Industry Association (BCRPA, NSCA, CFES or ACE). Occupational First Aid Basic Certificate with CPR A, A.E.D. training. W.H.M.I.S. Certificate.
This position is defined by the City of Powell River as a position of trust and requires a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment.
Experience: Six (6) months experience as a personal trainer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of exercise physiology, fitness assessment protocols and program design practices consistent with recognized fitness industry standards. Working knowledge of safe equipment use, facility rules and emergency response procedures in a public recreation environment. Demonstrated skill in delivering personalized training programs, demonstrating exercises and correcting technique for clients of varied ages and abilities. Ability to adapt programs according to client’s individual needs and abilities within the recognized scope of practice. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear verbal instruction and encouragement and respectfully interact with participants, staff and supervisors. Clearly demonstrates the Demonstrated ability to organize sessions, manage time and complete assigned work within scheduled hours. Ability to work within, and contribute to, a high-functioning team environment. Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, including participation in required safety training and prompt reporting of hazards, injuries and near misses. Ability to learn and apply changing systems, procedures and policy requirements, and support service continuity. Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current pay rate of $32.89 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.
HOURS OF WORK:
Varied schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Please note: This position is to provide extra capacity and to cover for absences such as sick and vacation relief. It requires availability for both short-notice and pre-scheduled work.
