Human Resources & Communications Assistant
Rate of pay:
Recruitment Range: $26.01-$29.73 per hour
Schedule:
Temporary (Until December 17, 2026) full-time hours are 32 hours per week
Monday to Thursday, 8 hours per day inclusive of a one-hour paid lunch break. Hours may be flexible and include times of up to 40 hours per week including Fridays based on operational needs.

The successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources & Communications Assistant provides administrative and coordination support to the HR function and assists with internal and external communications. This is an entry-level position suited to a recent graduate or co-op student seeking practical experience in human resources and organizational communications. Most work is guided, reviewed, and supported by the HR Manager. The role focuses on accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and professional communication while building foundational HR and communications skills.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Human Resources Support
- Assist with routine HR administrative tasks such as preparing letters, forms, and employee documentation.
- Maintain and update HR records, files, and tracking spreadsheets in accordance with confidentiality and records standards.
- Support recruitment processes by posting jobs, scheduling interviews, and preparing candidate materials.
- Assist with onboarding preparation (welcome packages, orientation schedules, document collection).
- Track training records, certifications, and required employee documentation.
- Provide general administrative support for HR projects and initiatives including creating forms and templates
Communications Support
- Assist with the development of brand guidelines for the Nation.
- Assist with the development of a communication framework for the Nation.
- Assist with drafting internal announcements, memos, and staff communications.
- Help update website content, newsletters, bulletin boards, or social media posts.
- Assist in organizing staff events, engagement activities, or information sessions.
- Ensure communications reflect a professional, respectful, and inclusive tone.
General Duties
- Provide front-line administrative support as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Other related duties similar in scope and complexity as assigned.
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of some post-secondary education in a related field (Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration), plus 6-12 months experience in an office setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience (lived and professional) will be considered. Additionally:
- Experience working in a First Nations community would be considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to follow direction, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn HR practices and communications processes.
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with diverse individuals.
