Accountant
The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of 'Accountant”. This is a full-time, union position subject to the terms and conditions in the collective agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556.
Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Accountant performs professional accounting work to support the City's accounting operations, financial reporting and corporate accounting functions. The position coordinates key accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end accounting, capital and development accounting, and maintains the accuracy and integrity of the City's financial records. The Accountant provides accounting guidance and support to Accounting Services staff, assists departments with financial matters, and participates in process improvements and financial system initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) certification
- CPA Member in good standing
- Criminal Record Check
- 3-5 years accounting experience
- Experience in payroll and municipal accounting considered an asset
- Thorough knowledge of various office equipment and office computer software programs
- Considerable knowledge of accounting, payroll, and auditing principles
- Considerable knowledge of legislation and regulations governing general accounting practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time management, analytical, problem solving, computer and keyboarding skills
- Ability to oversee the work of others
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently
- Ability to multi-task and cope effectively with deadlines
The current hourly wage rate is $51.52 based on a minimum 35-hour work week (Schedule “A”).
