We are seeking a Recreation Programmer who will be responsible for planning and delivering meaningful recreation and leisure programs that promote engagement, enhance quality of life, and reflect the diverse interests and abilities of our residents in our Long-term care home.
The incumbent will:
- Develop and facilitate individual and group programs that align with residents needs, preferences, and care plans.
- Create and deliver programming that is diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds of residents through meaningful activities, observances, and partnerships with community faith groups.
- Support holistic wellness by addressing all dimensions of resident well-being through integrated, person-centered programs and opportunities.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support holistic resident care.
- Participate in resident assessments, care conferences, documentation, and program evaluations.
- Support special events, seasonal celebrations, and community partnerships.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet programming needs.
The successful applicant will possess:
- Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or related field.
- A valid/approved Food Handler's course obtained within the last 5 years.
- Experience in a Long-Term Care Home or Adult Day Program is preferred.
- Volunteer coordination experience and certification in volunteer management are considered assets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a resident-centered approach.
- Proficiency in documentation and report writing.
- A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with consideration for equity and accessibility.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and infection prevention protocols.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including assisting with mobility and program setup.
Hours of Work:
Successful candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and afternoons (12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), as well as every other weekend and occasional call-in shifts as required. Part-time employees may be scheduled for up to three consecutive weekends based on operational needs. Schedules are posted six weeks in advance and are developed to support the operational requirements of the home. As such, scheduling cannot be coordinated around other employment commitments, personal availability, or individual preferences. We are seeking flexible team members who can reliably support the needs of our residents and organization.
