The City of Abbotsford is seeking experienced and community-minded individuals to serve as Election Staff for the 2026 General Local and School Trustee Election. Advance voting will take place on October 7, 10 and 11, 2026, and General Voting Day is October 17, 2026.
Applicants must
- Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia
- Be 18 years of age of older
- Be responsible for their own transportation to and from their voting location
- Be available to work on General Voting Day, or Advance Voting Days
- Act in a non-partisan and neutral manner
- Follow written procedures and instructions
- Provide courteous and professional service to the public
- Complete one required training session and work at least one voting day to be eligible for remuneration
- Be available to work a minimum 14-hour shift, starting at 7:00 a.m. and continuing through the close of voting, with additional time required as needed to serve all voters and complete site cleanup
- Stay onsite for the duration of the day, including all breaks
- Not be related to any candidate
- Not be actively working or volunteering for an election campaign
Qualifications
- Customer service experience and excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, mathematical competence and clear written communication skills
- Strong computer knowledge and proficiency
- Punctual, reliable, patient and a strong team player
- Endurance to work a long day and sit for long periods of time
- Ability to carry and move items such as tables and chairs
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in other languages is an asset
- Previous municipal election experience is an asset
Responsibilities
- Arrive promptly at 7:00 a.m. on voting days to set up the voting location as directed by the Presiding Election Official (PEO) and/or Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO)
- Complete appropriate forms and documents as required by legislation
- Assist voters in a pleasant, polite and friendly manner to support a positive voter experience
- Perform electronic voter strike-off, process new registrations and update voter information on the assigned laptop
- Provide voters with the declaration and have them sign the voting book
- Accurately track all signatures in the voting book and issue ballots
- Direct voters to the next available voting booth to mark their ballot
- At the close of the poll, accurately balance your voting book(s), and complete the ballot account form
- Assist with cleanup at the close of the poll and secure all election materials
- Provide assistance and support to your team as directed by the PEO and APEO

An EO must attend one training session.
