Programmer I - Child & Youth Services
1 Temporary Full-Time Position (Up to 18months)

Community Services is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Programmer I to join the Community Services Division – Child & Youth Services. Reporting to the Programmer II the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating recreation programs, services, and special events that support children, youth, and families in our community. This position also develops community partnerships, supports off-site programming, and contributes to the delivery of inclusive, engaging, and responsive community services.
The Programmer I is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating programs and staff. As well as program schedules; monitoring program quality; conducting community and participant needs assessments; preparing promotional materials and program Activity Guide content. They will manage a large program budget, program supplies and inventory; and promote exceptional customer service through effective public engagement and community partnerships. The Programmer I portfolio for this role includes the supervision of The Saanich Neighbourbood Playground Program, partnerships with all SD 61 Middle and High Schools in the Gordon Head and Cedar Hill Neighborhoods as well as the Gordon Head Youth Centre at Gordon Head Recreation Centre.
Requirements include a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies, or a related field, along with two years of experience in Programming development/planning and staff supervision. Program specialty certification, a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence, and Occupational First Aid Level II may be required depending on operational needs. Employment is subject to a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) dated within the last six months. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a temporary full-time position for up to 18 months or until the return of the incumbent from maternity leave. The successful candidate will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday or various weekends depending on program needs.
