The Supervisor, Children & Youth Program, oversees all aspects of the Eastsiders’ program, which involves caring pastorally for the children and youth who come to the Centre and who live in the Centre. You are responsible to provide vision and leadership to the staff and support them and their professional development. As well, you oversee all seasonal projects: camp partnership program and Christmas Hamper program. As UGM’s afterschool licensing point of contact, you coordinate, implement and ensure UGM’s compliance with our current Eastsiders’ Afterschool Licensed Program. You contribute actively to all current and future children and youth programming, and build connections with other DTES Children’s and Youth providers. You are an important leader of the outreach team and provide on-call supervision in a rotation with other supervisors. As a spiritual leader, you will be a role model for your team, and strive to enhance client care and services that are consistent with Union Gospel Mission’s Vision and Core values.
This is a permanent, full-time (37.5hours per week) position. The starting range for this position is $31.92 to $34.88 per hour.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Eastsiders Program– 55%
- With the Manager and the Supervisor, Child Care & Youth, develop and implement a vision for the Eastsiders and Afterschool program. Provide sub-branch direction, oversight of operations, and collaborative problem-solving, handling complex and difficult issues with staff or guests to ensure timely follow-up.
- Provide spiritual leadership by regularly participating in prayer times as well as offering pastoral care, prayer and spiritual direction to staff and guests and staff.
- Hire, orient, train, supervise, and conduct annual performance reviews of direct reports. Meet regularly with staff members to support, equip, hold accountable and empower.
- Participate regularly in children and youth programming to observe and support staff as needed.
- Network and collaborate with internal and external partners.
- Plan and participate in staff meetings, training and development opportunities.
Administrative Duties – 25%
- Access ETO for monthly reports including KPIs and the Ministry Monthly Report.
- Work with the Manager and the Supervisor, Child Care & Youth, to support branch staff via appropriate training opportunities.
- Oversee the process of obtaining an afterschool license for Eastsiders. Stay informed of and comply with licensing standards.
- Oversee and assist with seasonal programming: camp sponsorship and Christmas hamper programs.
- Create and update client support material together with Creative Services where required.
General – 20%
- Provide back-up coverage for our current afterschool programming and other outreach or reception needs
- Adhere to all UGM published policies, practices and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in rotation with the other WFO Supervisors for on-call supervision.
KSA’s
- Mature individual, committed to UGM’s Mission Statement, Core Values and Statement of Faith.
- A vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
- Related post-secondary education combined with several years of related experience required (youth-focused degree is an asset).
- 3-4 years’ experience in a faith-based Ministry Organization required.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Consideration may be given to alternate combinations of lived experience and education.
- Excellent knowledge of BC Family Child Care Association, and child care and licensing. Responsible Adult Course is an asset.
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Good English skills (verbal, reading and writing).
- Experience in working in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community experience would be an asset.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, ethically, regarding sensitive matters regarding the organization and its clientele.
- Experience dealing with complex matters, including one’s own life experience that encouraged your own personal work of resilience
- Valid Class 5 drivers’ license required; willing to get a Class 4.
- Ability to work independently; self-motivated and disciplined.
- Able to effectively identify and solve problems and follow through on initiatives
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and organizational skills. Strong administrative skills.
- Complete UGM Non Violent Crisis Intervention Course.
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed indoors, with up to 10% of the time spent outdoors in all types of weather.
Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking or reaching for up to 50% of the time. Employee is required to look at a computer screen and use a keyboard for up to 90% of the time. Must be able to lift up to 35lbs occasionally.
Working environment is generally favourable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is performed amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises. Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water. This position is required to work in an environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.
This position works a Tuesday to Saturday schedule, including evening shifts and day shifts. Some weekend and after-hours work is expected as an on-call supervisor. Overtime and work on statutory holidays may be required.
Job requires frequent interaction with the public some of whom may be upset, abusive, and/or violent. Job requires working frequently with people in unhealthy conditions and may include exposure to bodily fluids, lice and bedbugs. Employee is required to hear information about clients’ lives which may be troubling or upsetting, and may cause emotional issues including vicarious trauma.
