Senior Financial Analyst, Shared Services (18 Month Contract)
Location: Hybrid - Toronto, Kingston, Montreal
The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $92,960 - $142,960. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract and casual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component.
Empire Life is looking to hire a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team on an 18-Month Contract! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.
The Senior Finance Analyst, Shared Services Analyst participates in all aspects of the Company’s shared services requirements related to investment and segregated fund products and associated client transactions. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the supervision of the Manager, Trust Accounting.

What you’ll be working on
Participate in the end-to-end trust accounting function, including processing of unit holder and cash transactions, fees, receivables and asset transfers in accordance with required timelines to ensure transactions and records are valid, accurate and complete
Prepare and/or review the daily reconciliation of bank accounts
Maintain analyze and review general ledger accounts on a daily basis
Prepare dealer commission reconciliations and validate the accuracy of monthly and quarterly reports generated for trailing commissions
Resolve issues and exceptions (e.g., out of balance items) identified and perform root-cause analyses to ensure solutions and preventative measures are developed and implemented
Ensure timely escalation of items that require involvement of management
Collaborate with business units, banks, fund managers, external administrators and vendors as well as other key stakeholders to identify and resolve issues and reconcile items
Collaborate with the broader Finance, Retail Operations and Investment teams to develop strategies to obtain relevant information from corporate systems
Assist in the implementation of tools and methods designed to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of processes and output applicable to the trust accounting/cash team functions; ensure new processes and procedures are communicated and followed, provide training support and maintain up-to-date procedure manuals
Compile data from various sources to support the cash management function to ensure accurate and adequate cash transfers, positions and reporting for all fund portfolios
Implement daily cash management function, including cash flow forecasting, cash position reporting to senior management, reconciliation of broker accounts and cash positions
Ensure investment activities are appropriately recorded in a timely manner to support accurate financial reporting
Lead and/or participate in all aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process
Act as a subject matter expert for other members of the Corporate Accounting team and line of business teams for routine complex transaction activity.
Ensure work adheres to regulatory guidelines, compliance requirements and operational procedures
Research, recommend and implement solutions to improve the effectiveness of internal controls within the area
Prepare and provide management with information for decision making and further action
Collaborate with internal and external auditors and assist management with the preparation and delivery of information from auditor requests
Lead or participate in projects and initiatives
Coordinate with team members and stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
Help identify potential project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
Help ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and specifications.
Assist in training and developing new team members

What we’re looking for you to have
Completion of a university degree with courses in financial accounting, management and business administration
5+ years of professional work experience within the accounting and finance discipline, preferably in the insurance and/or financial services industry
Proven experience with bank and general ledger account reconciliations, financial systems and/or operations within a payroll or banking environment.
Trust accounting experience is an asset
Knowledge of segregated fund and mutual fund products as well as associated operations, regulatory and accounting requirements
Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and database software, with advanced Microsoft Excel competency strongly preferred
Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet, database and word processing software
Knowledge of Unitrax, Ingenium e-Capsil, c-Capsil, Portia is an asset
Knowledge of insurance policy administrative systems is an asset
CPA designation or working towards
Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks or projects
Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines
Ability to think logically, analyze and solve problems
High attention to detail/accuracy
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Well-developed communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
