Career Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity in our Community & Stakeholder Relations Department for a Senior Community Liaison Officer.
What You Will Do
As the Senior Community Liaison Officer, you will plan and implement community relations and outreach strategies for the Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements (BYCI) project with significant benefits and potentially significant impacts to local communities and TTC customers. You will act as the community liaison in connection with the BYCI project and initiatives by collaborating and partnering with various TTC departments and multiple external agencies and organizations.
This will include conducting and facilitating on-site visits (and online consultations), meeting with residents on individual or group/community basis and conduct home consultations regarding construction concerns (e.g. operational noise/vibration complaints). Address various issues, requests, complaints, and inquiries from the public in a timely manner to effectively resolve issues and demonstrate TTC's accountability. You will consult directly with City Councillors and arrange community site walks and meetings related to ongoing community concerns for major projects that require attendance of senior TTC staff and executives; follow-up and arrange subsequent action as required to resolve issues.
You will serve as the point of contact for community leaders, City Councillors and other key stakeholders including Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), school boards, institutions and neighbours
What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- A Post-secondary college diploma or university degree in planning, political science, social science, communications, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Several years of related work experience.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software applications relevant to the work, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database.
- Knowledge of communications and community relations principles, methods and practices.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction terminology and methods as well as the ability to translate complex technical information into easily understandable material for the public and various stakeholders.
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal, facilitation, organizational and problem solving skills; sound judgement, tact and diplomacy; and strong dispute resolution and negotiation skills.
- High level of customer service orientation.
- Ability to effectively deal with issues of a sensitive nature when investigating, responding or preparing correspondence to address complaints.
- Must have or quickly acquire a thorough knowledge of the TTC’s organizational structure and functional areas with an emphasis on construction and maintenance.
- Must have or obtain Subway/SRT Rule Book certification.
- Must have or acquire knowledge of surface and safety rail/signal operations.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
