OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant Supervisor, Junior Camps will support the role of the Summer Day Camp Supervisor by ensuring the implementation of Camp curriculum, the safety and wellbeing of all sports campers, mentoring and supporting all sports camp staff and by assisting in all tasks related to the successful operation of Camp Ridley Day Camps.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize and coordinate all aspects of Junior Camp programming including curriculum development and implementation, purchasing of program supplies, and planning of special Camp events;
Supports staff with all medical, behavior, and performance issues with campers in program area;
Works closely with the Summer Day Supervisor to achieve resolution for all issues and ensure that all day campers adhere to the Ridley College Code of Conduct;
Responsible for ensuring that all Junior camps have sufficient supplies and equipment each week;
Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and the camp environment is safe from physical hazards;
Provide training to staff on proper equipment usage as related to program area;
Follows Camp protocol for recording incidents and contacts parents when needed for follow up;
Supervises lunches to expedite the set-up of tables, the delivery of meals and the clean-up of the dining hall and ensures proper dining hall etiquette is adhered to;
Acts as a parent liaison, being present at drop off and pick up to greet families, provide information and foster positive relationships;
Assists with weekly Day Camp Staff meetings and attends weekly Senior Staff meetings;
Assists with the on boarding of all Summer Day Camp staff and develops and delivers staff training curriculum;
Collaborates and plans Fun Friday activities for Junior Campers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Pursuing post-secondary degree in applicable field (Early Childhood Educations, Recreation, Child Development, Leisure Students or B.Ed. Primary/Junior preferred).
Knowledge and experience in Human Resource ‘best practices.
Valid CPR and First Aid Certification (training will be provided).
EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Work related experience with youth ages 4 to 7.
Experience employing conflict resolution strategies and behavior management techniques.
Excellent organizational and general management skills.
Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative.
Skilled people leader who can energize and develop individuals by taking a learner-centered approach that builds trust, encourages collaboration and promotes a growth mindset.
Ability to enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Superior communicator and strong interpersonal skills.
A sense of humour, self-control and a love for working with children.
Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, students, and parents and resolve problems constructively and nimbly.
Holds high standards of personal responsibility and professionalism.
Experience in a camp setting is an asset.
