The Assistant Director, IT will report to the Director, Finance and is responsible for overseeing the IT department’s operations, ensuring the efficient and secure functioning of all IT systems, applications, and infrastructure. The role involves leading strategic projects, managing day-to-day IT operations, managing and mentoring team members, and ensuring the alignment of IT initiatives with organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Day to Day
- Manage the development, maintenance, monitoring and upgrading of all the IT infrastructure and systems
- Oversee IT budget and multiple project implementations
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures to maintain security and operational standards
- Act as a bridge between the IT department and other departments, ensuring IT solutions are tailored to meet the needs of the school
- Work collaboratively with the Junior and Senior School Technology Integration Teachers
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on IT performance, risks, and opportunities
- Engage with external vendors and service providers to optimize services and costs
Security and Compliance
- Ensure IT systems are secure, compliant with regulatory requirements, and protected against cybersecurity threats
- Oversee data privacy and ensure the integrity of sensitive information throughout the School
Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and support the IT team in achieving departmental goals and objectives
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance team culture
- Assist with hiring, training, and development of IT team members
Strategic
- Analyze, benchmark and make recommendations for improvement as needed
- Establish, plan and monitor the vision, goals , policies and strategy for the IT department
- Identify emerging technologies and recommend their adoption to enhance organizational efficiency and capabilities
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and vendor management
- Other duties assigned as required
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Computer Programming, Networking or Computer Service
- 5+ years related experience at senior manager level
- A strong business acumen with in-depth technical knowledge and experience working in the corporate and/or education environment
- Proficiency with multiple platforms and devices and knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Concepts and Patterns
- Demonstrated knowledge in IT functions, processes and capabilities (e.g. networking, security, infrastructure, information management, cloud technologies etc.)
- Proven experience in managing IT operations, infrastructure, and cybersecurity
- Experience managing large scale technology roll-outs in corporate and/or educational environment
- Project management expertise with the ability to successfully deliver complex enterprise wide technology solutions
- A visionary leader with excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- A proven track record of effectively coaching and mentoring staff
