About The Marketing Designer Role
Float is seeking a versatile and self-motivated Marketing Designer to join our high-impact marketing team. As the sole design lead, you'll play a critical role in shaping how we visually communicate Float's mission and value to SMBs and mid-market businesses across Canada. We're looking for someone who can juggle priorities effectively, operate with agility, and thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment. You'll report directly to the VP of Marketing, working closely with Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Content, and other cross-functional teams.
At Float, we're building a company where ambitious people who thrive on being challenged can do their best work. We work fast, collaborate often, and celebrate our wins at every step of the way. Our culture is built on trust, transparency, and a shared desire to learn and grow together. As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and help shape the future of business finance in Canada.
What your week-to-week looks like:
- Design Leadership: Act as a thought partner to the marketing team, bringing creative solutions to context, challenges, and opportunities. Take ownership of creative execution across all marketing channels
- Multi-Channel Design: Create impactful designs for a variety of needs, including digital ads, social media assets, website pages, interactive tools/calculators, email templates, event materials, slide decks, out-of-home media (e.g., digital billboards), and more
- Brand Stewardship: Ensure consistency across all customer touchpoints by collaborating with the Product team to maintain a cohesive and unified brand experience
- Data-Driven Design: Proactively seek out data on how designs are performing and work closely with the marketing team to test, iterate, and improve based on insights
- Visual Identity Evolution: Lead internal and external (agency) team members to evolve brand guidelines. Experiment with and test creative ideas aligned to brand guidelines. Provide a point of view on where to push and stretch the brand's visual identity, based on insights and performance
- Efficiency and Agility: Leverage tools like Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro (or other video editing platform) and AI-powered design tools to work smarter and faster without sacrificing quality. Adapt to shifting priorities as needed
Requirements
You'll be great in this role if:
- You've got the experience. We're looking for 4+ years in marketing, brand or graphic design, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment. Experience working with SMBs or mid-market businesses is a strong plus. You're proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing tools. You can create designs for Webflow or, bonus, you can do basic design work in Webflow. You can share with us a portfolio showcasing a range of design work across both digital and traditional formats
- Creative is your middle name. You take great pride in creating a visual identity that is bold and memorable. You keep the audience in mind, and you test and iterate to capture their attention
- You're a problem-solver. You take pride in your ability to balance creativity with speed and agility. You have a knack for solving problems with design, not just executing requests
- You're a collaborator at heart. You are a strong communicator and believe that creative input can come from anyone! You have the ability to build partnerships across teams to support your work. You're experienced at aligning marketing and product design for a cohesive customer journey. And you have experience collaborating with contractors/agencies and web developers on projects
- You have a feedback-driven mindset. You're hungry for feedback and able to take it well while having your own strong opinions, loosely held. You crave constructive input and use it to improve and grow
- You're resourceful and independent. You've taken end-to-end ownership of design priorities and projects before. You're comfortable being the sole marketing designer—a self-motivated individual who can manage multiple priorities and take projects from ideation to execution
This role won't be a fit if:
- You avoid data-driven decision-making and don't seek insights on how your designs perform
- You resist experimenting with or stretching brand guidelines when appropriate
- You are not a self-starter and do not like to work independently
- You don't have high attention to detail
- You don't like ambiguity or aren't resilient
- You are uncomfortable with direct feedback
- You aren't comfortable prioritizing your own to-do list
- You aren't genuinely passionate about helping Canadian businesses succeed by connecting them with the best financial solutions
Don't meet every single requirement? If you're excited about this role, and you strongly align with our values but your past experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this, or other future positions.
