The Opportunity
Duties
Reporting directly to the Manager, Programming and Outreach, this role is responsible for raising awareness of the Caledon Public Library by delivering library services beyond the walls of the branches. The Community Librarian enables Caledon Public Library to respond to the community’s needs for information, resources, and entertainment, both within the branches and the broader community. This position is responsible for coordinating community outreach, engaging individuals, organizations, and businesses and participating in community-based initiatives to advance CPL’s strategic priorities. As the Community Librarian, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Coordinate and schedule the library`s participation and contributions to community events and with partner organizations.
- Represent the Library and actively engage the community at offsite events, raising awareness of library services and strengthening the understanding of the value of libraries.
- Leverage outreach opportunities to encourage library membership and position the library as a trusted community partner.
- Build and nurture partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, developing, delivering, and evaluating programs and training to support shared priorities and increase the use of library resources.
- Develop and maintain resources and guides, in tandem with the Communications and Cultural Development Department, to support the community and connect them with Library services.
- Prepare content for newsletters, library blogs and local media outlets, following CPL communication guidelines.
- Ensure exemplary service to all customers of the Caledon Public Library in branch and in the community, maintaining the library’s image and ensuring that the library is profiled in a positive manner.
- Remains aware and engaged in relevant trends and interests, ensuring programs offered are relevant and innovative.
- Promote library collections in support of residents of all ages, community stakeholders, businesses, entrepreneurs, and the maker community.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a passionate professional with a post-graduate degree in Library and Information Studies/Science or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has minimum 2 years library experience, preferably in a public library as well as 2 years in a customer-focused setting and a minimum 1-year programming experience working with all age groups.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in public libraries and customer centered service. We are seeking an individual with superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships, a demonstrated ability to apply organizational, analytical skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
This position offers a salary range of $76,577.52 - $95,721.90 and a competitive benefits package.
Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
