POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Resident & Outreach Services, the Recreologist will design and implement comprehensive activities and recreation services that are designed to provide both therapeutic and supportive approaches to resident/client care in the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional areas. If selected for this role you will be asked to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check that is no more than six (6) months old.
- Must possess a post- secondary diploma or certificate in Recreation & Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
- Must have a minimum of (3) three years’ experience in a geriatric setting.
- Excellent communication skills with residents, families, visitors, volunteers, students and colleagues.
- Proficient in the use of varied word processing and spreadsheet software packages. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Must have a valid class “G” driver’s license.
- Smart Serve Certification will be considered an asset, and as a condition of employment to achieve certification within 3 months of start date.
- Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures.
- Food Safety Training Program (E.O.H.U.) will be considered an asset.
- Bilingualism will be considered an asset.
- Infection prevention and control requirement, as outlined by the O. Reg. 246/22: General under the Fixing long-term care Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, c 39, Sched. 1: Prospective candidates will need to demonstrate screening for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in accordance with any standard or protocol issued by the Director. This includes DTAP, MMR, Varciella, and Hepatitis B.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, implement and evaluate programs based on residents/clients' previous strength and interests, anticipated needs and functioning levels. Enhance program efficiency through planning and delivery of these activities. Support Resident/Client Council by promoting Council activities. All other duties as assigned.
