POSITION TITLE: Biologist (2 Openings)
DEPARTMENT: Natural Resources
SUPERVISOR: Natural Resources Manager

Purpose Of Position
The Natural Resource Biologists are responsible for conducting scientific research, monitoring environmental conditions, and providing expertise to support the sustainable management of natural resources. These positions aim to ensure that natural resources are managed in a way that supports ecological balance, cultural heritage, and community well-being.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive field studies and surveys to assess the health of ecosystems, species populations, water quality, and vegetation.
- Develop and implement long-term monitoring programs to track changes in natural resources over time.
- Analyze environmental data using statistical and GIS software to identify trends, impacts, and areas of concern.
- Prepare detailed scientific reports, technical documents, and policy briefs on research findings.
- Provide regular updates to management, stakeholders, and community members on the status of natural resources and ongoing projects.
- Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and community meetings.
- Develop, coordinate, and manage multiple natural resource management projects from inception to completion.
- Establish project timelines, goals, and deliverables, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Engage with community members, elders, and local organizations to gather traditional knowledge and integrate it into resource management practices.
- Organize and facilitate community workshops, information sessions, and field tours to raise awareness about conservation efforts and gather input on resource management plans.
- Develop educational materials and outreach programs to promote sustainable practices among community members.
- Assist in the development of policies and guidelines for sustainable resource management, conservation, and restoration efforts.
- Ensure that all research and management activities comply with local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations and policies.
- Advocate for the protection and sustainable use of natural resources in regulatory processes and development projects.
- Lead or participate in fish and wildlife habitat restoration projects, invasive species control, and wetland restoration.
- Develop conservation plans for fish and wildlife species, including habitat monitoring, assessment and preservation, this may include reintroduction efforts.
- Monitor the success of restoration projects and adapt management strategies as needed.
- Assess the potential impacts of climate change on local ecosystems and natural resources.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change on biodiversity, water resources, and community resilience.
- Collaborate with other organizations and agencies on climate change adaptation projects and initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and organized databases of all collected environmental data, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
- Once approved, share data with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations.
- Contribute to regional and national data repositories and collaborative research efforts.
Professional Certification, Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in natural resource management, environmental monitoring, or a related field.
- Previous experience working for an Indigenous organization strongly preferred.
Financial Responsibility
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
- Assist in securing funding through grant applications, partnerships, and other financial opportunities to support program activities.
- Assist with financial reporting back to funding sources within contracts and/or contribution agreements to ensure project deliverables are met.
Supervision Or Training Duties
- Provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff, interns, or volunteers involved in natural resource projects.
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff and community members on environmental monitoring techniques, data collection, and resource management practices.
- Work alongside other TteS staff to build overall capacity.
Skills And Abilities
- Scientific Research: Proficiency in conducting field studies, ecological surveys, and analyzing complex data.
- Project Management: Ability to develop, manage, and coordinate multiple projects with strong organizational skills.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing, public presentations, and community outreach.
- Critical Thinking: Strong analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving and innovative resource management strategies.
- Fieldwork Proficiency: Experience conducting fieldwork in diverse and challenging environments with various ecological tools.
- GIS and Technical Skills: Expertise in GIS, environmental modelling, data management, and remote sensing technologies.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of environmental laws and ability to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration skills, with cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in diverse communities.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions, project demands, and work environments.
- Commitment to Conservation: Passion for sustainability and ethical management of natural resources.
- Relatable and knowledgeable with Indigenous perspectives, values, and ethics.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
PAY GRADE: Starting at $43.04 - 52.04 depending on qualifications and experience.
