THISI POSITION IS LOCATED AT OUR INVERNESS LOCATION
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate residential/recycling side-load and/or rear-load trucks, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect waste and recyclables.
- Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle using proper techniques.
- Operate compacting equipment to safely store waste in the truck.
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, documenting reports as required.
- Report mechanical issues immediately to the mechanic and supervisor.
- Maintain route quality standards as set by management and provide excellent customer service.
- Follow all safety standards, procedures, and guidelines while operating the truck.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, both interior and exterior.
- Identify and remove prohibited waste items (e.g., flammable materials).
- Supervise assigned helpers if applicable.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding vehicle operation and waste disposal.
- Always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, reflective vest, and safety boots.
- Report accidents or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed and monitor waste container inventories.
- Participate in safety and team meetings.
- Work closely with supervisors to improve route efficiencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience or a CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet company standards for safety-sensitive functions.
- Must demonstrate safe driving and equipment operation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with truck components and basic maintenance for safe operation.
- Ability to control operations and maneuver trucks in tight spaces using mirrors.
- Recognize and handle unacceptable waste safely.
- Strong communication skills, both with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to read and interpret route maps and instructions.
- Flexibility and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and engage in physical tasks regularly.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, or rainy conditions.
- Regularly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Sitting may be required up to 75% of the time during driving.
- Ability to work in noisy environments, potentially with loud machinery.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, extreme weather, and outdoor work conditions.
- Work in traffic and high-traffic areas constantly.
- Work with moving mechanical parts and hazardous materials.
- Occasional work in high places.
- Environment can be physically demanding, requiring agility and focus.
