Duties
Defence Research & Development Canada (DRDC) is a national network of science and technology research centres within the Department of National Defence employing 1300 employees supporting the defence and security communities. We perform strategic science research and technology development and provide advice and technical solutions to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), as well as the public safety and national security communities.
Toronto Research Centre (TRC) is one of seven research centres within DRDC and is Canada's centre of expertise for human effectiveness science and technology in the defence and national security environment. Using a systems-based approach, the centre covers all aspects of human performance and effectiveness including military health, individual and team performance, human-system interaction, and the influence of culture on operational effectiveness. DRDC - TRC supports the operational needs of the CAF through research, advice, and training in both physical and information environments. The Operational Health and Performance Section at DRDC TRC has an opportunity to hire an Electronics Technologist for Human Sciences. This is a full time indeterminate position. Successful completion of a program or diploma (minimum 2 year) from a recognized post-secondary institution in electronic or electrical engineering technology (or equivalent experience) and experience working with sensors for medical applications are required. Willingness to travel domestically to conduct data collection in a field trial setting is desired. The successful applicant will work with technologists, engineers, defence scientists, support staff and CAF members, and will manage an electronics and instrumentation lab. Our current areas of applied research include thermal physiology in austere and extreme environments, e.g., simulated conflagration, desert and high Arctic conditions, human factors and ergonomics related to load characterization and body armour, electrically heated clothing, and peripheral blood flow. Your ability to problem solve, improvise, adapt and overcome challenges will be a common occurrence.

Intent of the process

EX02: Experience in conducting hands-on technical investigations, trouble shooting and repairing the electronic equipment such as, gauges, measuring meters, circuits, or physiological monitoring devices etc.
EX03: Experience with computer programming (e.g., Python).

Preference
