Health and Safety Manager Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Manager to lead the organization's safety programs and foster a strong safety culture across all operations. This role is responsible for developing and implementing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, managing compliance, and providing leadership to the HSE team. The successful candidate will bring extensive knowledge of occupational safety legislation, proven leadership experience, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in safety practices.
Your success will be defined by your ability to: - Lead and manage the Health and Safety team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure high performance
- Act as a trusted advisor to management, offering solutions to safety-related challenges
- Develop, update, and manage workplace safety procedures, programs, and policies
- Monitor changes in federal, provincial, and local safety regulations and ensure compliance
- Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee and prepare reports for leadership and board meetings
- Conduct internal and external audits for COR certification and maintain readiness for inspections
- Perform site inspections to verify implementation of safety programs
- Oversee and implement HSE training programs, including safety orientation and specialty certifications
- Support incident investigations, ensure documentation is complete, and educate teams on root causes and trends
- Promote and evolve the organization's safety culture through training and communication
- Research and implement best practices for safety policies and procedures
Your strengths include: - Post-secondary education in Health and Safety (preferred)
- CRSP designation (required)
- First Aid certification and WHMIS instructor certification
- ASCA COR Auditor certification
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in Health and Safety, including leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of occupational safety legislation and best practices
- Experience managing safety programs in environments with subcontractors (an asset)
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience with BIS Trainer (an asset)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Understanding of adult learning principles (an asset)
