Role Overview (Scales by Experience)
Depending on experience, the successful candidate will operate at the Manager, Senior Manager, or Director level with increasing responsibility for technical leadership, people development, and client relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Advisory
• Lead and review complex Canadian personal, corporate, and trust tax engagements
• Provide tax planning and advisory services, including corporate reorganizations, estate and succession planning, remuneration strategies, and owner-managed business planning
• Conduct and review technical tax research and develop practical recommendations
• Review information returns, elections, and prescribed forms prepared by staff
Client Leadership
• Act as a trusted advisor to clients and maintain strong ongoing relationships
• Identify opportunities to enhance client service and introduce additional firm services
• Support Partners in managing key client accounts; Directors may independently manage a client portfolio
Practice & Firm Leadership
• Work closely with Partners and senior staff to ensure high-quality engagement delivery
• Act as a technical resource to the firm on complex tax matters
• Contribute to tax practice development, process improvement, and risk management
• Directors will contribute to firm strategy and practice growth initiatives
People Development
• Mentor and develop tax staff and managers
• Review work, provide constructive feedback, and support performance development
• Organize and deliver internal technical training
• Support recruitment and succession planning initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
• CPA designation (CPA, CA) or equivalent
• Public accounting tax experience with increasing responsibility:
o Manager: 4-6+ years
o Senior Manager: 6-8+ years
o Director: 8-12+ years with leadership and client portfolio responsibility
• Enrolment or completion of the In-Depth Tax Program and/or Master of Taxation is an asset
• Strong technical knowledge of Canadian taxation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Strong leadership, coaching, and collaboration skills
• Proficiency in Caseware, Profile, Microsoft Office, and tax research software
