Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Controller to lead and manage the full accounting cycle in a fast-paced, multi-company environment. This role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in operational accounting, month-end close, compliance, and financial reporting, while supporting strategic planning through budgeting, KPI tracking, and cash flow management.
This position also plays a critical role in trade compliance, including CUSMA administration, tariff and duty risk assessment, and ongoing compliance oversight in partnership with third-party specialists.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee full-cycle accounting including A/P, A/R, PST, GST, and general ledger management
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries, accruals, and year-end adjusting entries
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes across multiple companies
- Perform detailed bank reconciliations and account reconciliations
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Support preparation of T5 and T3 filings
- Ensure compliance with government remittances including PST/GST and payroll-related reporting
- Manage WCB payments and reporting
Trade Compliance, Tariffs & CUSMA
- Oversee CUSMA administration, including documentation, eligibility, and ongoing compliance
- Assess and monitor tariff and duty exposure, including risk identification and financial impact
- Develop and maintain systems and controls to ensure ongoing compliance with customs, tariffs, and trade regulations
- Monitor shipping procedures and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Partner with third-party trade, customs, and compliance advisors to obtain guidance, approvals, and rulings as required
- Support internal teams with compliance-related processes and documentation
Intercompany & Multi-Entity Management
- Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions
- Support financial reporting in a multi-company environment
Planning & Financial Management
- Lead cash flow planning, forecasting, and liquidity management
- Develop and manage annual budgets, including:
- Sales and revenue planning
- Operating expenses
- Capital expenditure planning
Performance & KPI Tracking
- Develop, track, and report financial and operational KPIs
- Provide actionable insights and analysis to support management decision-making
External Liaison & Collaboration
- Act as primary liaison with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and trade consultants
- Coordinate year-end working papers and financial statement support
Systems & Tools
- Lead or support ERP implementation and system improvements
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required
Other Duties
- Perform additional finance, compliance, and operational support tasks as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting or controller-level experience
- Strong hands-on experience with full-cycle accounting
- Experience with Canadian tax filings (T5/T3)
- Exposure to trade compliance, tariffs, customs, or CUSMA/USMCA strongly preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity environment considered an asset
