Job Summary:
As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs, models, and drawings to support new product development, continuous improvement, and production activities. This role collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and cost requirements. The ideal candidate has strong CAD proficiency, solid mechanical design fundamentals, and experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Job Duties:
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using SolidWorks
- Interpret engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards to create accurate designs
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation activities; participate in root-cause analysis for engineering issues
- Perform tolerance stack-ups, basic engineering calculations, and material selection
- Ensure drawings comply with GD&T, drafting standards, and internal quality requirements
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA)
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation in accordance with company and industry standards
- Support engineering changes, ECO processes, and documentation updates
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality, Operations, Procurement, and Maintenance
- Troubleshoot design issues and assist in root cause analysis for field or production problems
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required
- Comply with all applicable OHSA, ESA, and other provincial regulatory laws, as well as company safety policies
- Any other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Senior Executive team
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial equipment, automation, or related industries is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Creo, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and drafting standards.
- Knowledge of materials, machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems is an asset.
- Ability to perform basic stress analysis and engineering calculations.
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
Compensation:
Annual salary 59,000-79,000 CAD
Physical Requirements:
- Must stoop, bend, reach, walk; perform repetitive motions using hands to grasp, push, pull or do fine manipulations

- The ability to lift up to 50lbs. is required, with the ability to occasionally lift up to 75lbs., preferred
