Border Paving Ltd. is currently hiring a Health & Safety Coordinator to support our field operations. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, approachable, confident in the field, and comfortable working alongside crews, supervisors, subcontractors and management. The H&S Coordinator plays a key role in supporting safe work practices by providing hands on field support, assisting with safety documentation, and helping ensure compliance with OH&S and company safety requirements. This position requires a strong field presence, good communication skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Support field operations by conducting regular site visits, inspections and safety observations across multiple project locations.
- Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and day to day engagement with crews.
- Assist supervisors and crew with completing safety related paperwork and documentation.
- Review safety documentation for accuracy and completeness, including incident reports, corrective actions, and safety records.
- Respond to incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions. Participate in investigations and follow-up actions.
- Work closely with Supervisors, Project Managers and subcontractors to help communicate safety expectations and requirements.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training, orientations, toolbox topics, and field-based safety support.
- Support COR audit requirements, field audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with field crews, office staff, subcontractors, and management.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive safety related information.
- Other duties as required to support safe and efficient operations.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of safety experience in construction, paving or similar operations.
- NCSO certification or actively working towards certification.
- Experience working directly with field crews and supporting day to day operations.
- Working knowledge of OH&S legislation, WCB, reporting requirements and return to work processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with crews and supervisors.
- Organized, detail-orientated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with TAS, Eco Plans and Alberta Transportation requirements.
- Proficient with computers and common software applications
- Valid Class 5 license and a willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
