Reporting to the Director, Student Conduct and Care, the Case Manager supports a diverse student population experiencing non-academic concerns and complex challenges through equity and trauma-informed case management support, crisis intervention and prevention, risk assessment, alternative dispute resolution, conflict coaching, and facilitation of appropriate referrals (internal and external). The incumbent is the first point of contact for disclosures and support for gender-based and sexual violence-related student concerns and provides coordination and case management support for the CARE (Campus Assessment, Response and Education) Team. The CARE Team identifies, assesses and develops early intervention plans for campus community members, primarily students, whose behaviours are disruptive or concerning.
The Case Manager builds partnerships across campus and community to strengthen and expand upon existing resources to meet a variety of student needs and concerns. The incumbent will also work closely with the members of Security and Emergency Management, Health and Wellness, Student Life, academic areas, Faculty, Residence, the Registrar’s Office, Mohawk Students’ Association and Human Resources.
This position works primarily from the Fennell campus, with some travel between campuses required.
What you’ll be doing:
Case Management, Service Intervention, and Consultation Duties
- Using trauma-informed, equity-centred and strength-based approaches, provide initial support and case management services in response to concerning and/or critical incidents involving students.
- Develop effective and sensitive outreach and support strategies for students who are experiencing a wide array of non-academic complex concerns and/or barriers.
- Provide leadership and guidance in assessing, analyzing, and responding to students of concern and when there is a potential risk to students, staff, faculty, or the College.
- Consult with staff and faculty to address questions or concerns about students.
- Assess risk using relevant evidence-based tools and structured professional judgement to respond to signs of psychological distress, including signs of suicide risk, suicide ideation, and risk of harm to others.
- Support students who have been referred by the Student Rights and Responsibilities team for informal interventions, ongoing guidance, and follow-up (e.g. Respondent support, conflict coaching, Voluntary No-Contact Agreements).
- Be the first point of contact for disclosures and case management support for gender-based and sexual violence-related student concerns.
- Participate as a member of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Advisory Committee.
CARE Team Coordination and Case Management
- Using trauma-informed, equity-centred and strength-based approaches, provide coordination and case management support for the CARE Team.
- Support the CARE Team with the development and implementation of strength-based care plans for students of concern.
- Provide leadership and guidance in assessing, analyzing, and responding to students of concern and when there is a potential risk to students, staff, faculty, or the College.
- Provide guidance to students, staff and faculty about relevant College policies and procedures.
- Liaise with various on and off-campus support services to facilitate effective referrals for students.
- Assist with the transition planning for students who have been withdrawn from studies.
Administrative Duties
- Maintaining confidential files related to student issues in keeping with the highest standards of legal and professional record keeping.
- Input of active files, interventions, care plans and other specific demographic data within the Advocate database.
- Develop written student care plans in consultation with CARE Team members.
- Ensure all CARE Team information is tracked and stored in Advocate.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program information on the website.
- Assist with data collection, reports, manuals, and presentations as required.
- As part of the Student Conduct and Care team, the incumbent contributes to the department by assisting with special events or other duties, as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- A Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Student Development or a related area.
- Membership, in good standing, with the applicable regulatory body (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Regulated Psychotherapists of Ontario).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in crisis management and/or case management.
- Minimum 3 years of previous experience providing support for people experiencing gender-based or sexual violence.
- Must have training in Violence Risk/Threat Assessment.
- Experience delivering trauma and equity-informed supports.
- Non-violent crisis intervention.
- Prior experience providing support to individuals in crisis and addressing complex issues (including suicide risk, self-harm, substance use concerns).
- Knowledge of current issues and best practices regarding case management, gender-based and sexual violence, student development theory, and student service delivery, as well as knowledge about mental health/distress/crisis assistance.
- Demonstrate initiative and excellent judgment at all times.
- Demonstrated strong team building, networking, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven commitment to fairness, personal and professional accountability, restorative justice principles, student development, and positive educational outcomes for students.
- Demonstrated successful experience with contentious relationship dynamics, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel between campuses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel is required.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
