Northwood is currently accepting applications for a
Housekeeper to join our
Halifax team!
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Housekeeper performs cleaning duties while helping to support and provide a safe working environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Grade X or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
- Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs).
- Good personal hygiene.
- Previous laundry experience.
- Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard.
- Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
- Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors.
Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas.
- Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts.
- Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques.
- Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer’s instructions.
- Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry.
- Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms.
- Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area.
- Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor.
- Complete specific set-ups for special functions.
- Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Hours of work: 80
Hours Biweekly (8 Hour shifts )
