The Student Services department at Crofton House School is distinguished by committed teachers, advisors and personal counsellors who support students academically, socially and emotionally. They work as a collaborative team who put the student at the centre of her learning and provide structure and programs to assist her as she makes decisions about her learning, wellbeing and her future. The facilities for student services are well equipped and offer bright and technology rich environments.
You are an expert in your field. As an experienced, knowledgeable and qualified school counsellor and teacher, you understand girls and the personal challenges they face as they navigate school from grade 8 - 12. You bring a compassionate, therapeutic and culturally sensitive approach to personal counselling with an awareness of mental health and social and emotional development. Balanced with supporting students, you mentor teachers in understanding personal challenges experienced by the students in their classes and guide them toward implementing strategies that ultimately support all learners. You work closely with the SEL and Wellness Coordinator to plan and lead SEL initiatives from Grade 8-12 . You provide support to the Heads of Grade with addressing grade wide trends and supporting individual students where required. You facilitate teacher professional learning and parent information sessions throughout the year as required.

You demonstrate an understanding of the importance of parents as partners in their daughter’s education by maintaining open and collaborative relationships with the parent community. As a lifelong learner, you demonstrate a commitment to actively seeking professional development. You participate actively in the life of the school.
Working days for this role will be Wednesday - Friday. These are subject to change based on the operational needs of the School.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support for social and emotional challenges experienced by girls
- Support and lead extended advisory SEL and Health sessions to students working closely with the Student Wellbeing and SEL Coordinator
- Support Heads of Grade in addressing grade wide trends and supporting individual needs as required
- Facilitate teacher professional development sessions as required
- Facilitate parents’ information sessions as required
- Facilitate meetings between students, parents and Senior School teachers
- Maintain documentation and records for individual students, ensuring confidentiality in reporting
- Provide appropriate feedback to advisors and parents on student progress and strategies for support
- Liaise with outside community support services for the betterment of the student(s).
- Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Student Services department
- Participates in school meetings and events, including grade wide meetings, school planning and professional development
- Contribute to Peer Support program
- Keep abreast of development in the field of mental health in schools and advise the Assistant Director, Student Services as appropriate.
- Create a positive and supportive culture for learning
- Set annual professional goals
- Contribute to the Personal Counsellors’ annual written board report
- Support co-curricular activities as a teacher sponsor
- Be an active and positive participant in the life of the school
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
- Essential: Registered with a professional organization at a provincial or national level
- Asset: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
- Relevant university qualifications (e.g. Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Arts, or equivalent)
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Social Work
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation and mediation skills
- A commitment toward continued professional development and growth
- Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community
- Experience in an independent school, an asset
- Demonstrable awareness of the learning preferences of girls and young women
Employment and Application Details:
Classes begin in September 2026 following teacher orientation in late August 2026.
Employees of Crofton House School receive competitive compensation and support for professional, educational and leadership development. Please note that applicants must be able to legally work in Canada. Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received.
Annual Compensation: $69,541 - $123,242 depending on experience and education level. This amount will be pro-rated based on FTE.
