Job Description:
Our client is currentlyseeking a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer for an initial 2 year contract (opportunity for extension or conversion to permanent if candidate is interested).
As the successful candidate you will help develop, test, and verify the GNC software for autonomous surface (USV) and underwater (AUV) vehicles, tackling some of the hardest navigation challenges in the field.
This position is available 100% Remote in Canada with occasional travel to client sites as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write C source code to software specifications for GNC systems
- Develop and maintain automated test procedures in Python to validate navigation and control software
- Participate in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing in support of maritime system certification
- Create and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and reports
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, autonomy) to ensure system-level integration
- Maintain traceability and rigor across all development and verification activities
- Contribute to improving internal design and verification processes and tooling
Required skills:
- 5+ years of experience in GNC systems across any industry
- C for embedded source code development
- Python for test automation
- HIL testing environments and embedded systems
- Familiarity with navigation fundamentals including INS, GNSS, Doppler velocity logs, or acoustic positioning
Nice-to-have skills:
- Direct experience with USVs, AUVs, ROVs, or other unmanned maritime platforms
- Knowledge of GPS-denied navigation, sensor fusion, or SLAM in underwater environments
- Familiarity with dynamic positioning (DP) systems or wave motion compensation
- Experience with maritime certification standards (DNV, IEC 61508, IMO guidelines)
- Background in acoustic communication systems or subsea sensing
