St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation Hamilton is looking for a Senior Communications Officer, Development to join our team of dedicated, caring and mission-focused professionals.
Core Function: Reporting to the Vice-President, Communications & Community Engagement and collaborating closely with the Vice-President, Development, the Senior Communications Officer, Development is responsible for delivering best-in-class donor communications, including collaborative and impactful cases for support and fundraising materials that elevate the impact of philanthropy and result in major, transformational and planned gifts in support of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation to advance the future of healthcare.

Key Accountabilities: The Senior Communications Officer, Development is responsible primarily for (but not limited to):
- The development of highly customized communication pieces to cultivate, solicit and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors at principal and major giving levels.
- Collaborate effectively with members of the Principal and Major Giving, Donor Relations, Communications and Gift Planning teams to maximize the impact of major and transformational donor communications, fundraising and stewardship materials.
- Develop case for support documents, solicitation letters, proposals, pitch decks, project overviews, donor briefings, presentations and stewardship impact reports, ensuring materials are written and designed to the highest quality while adhering to brand standards of the Hospital and Foundation.
- Work closely with foundation colleagues and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton partners to understandproject needs and participate in strategy sessions to align donor communication effortswith fundraising goals and priorities.
- In collaboration with other communications colleagues, develop key messages andnarratives for fundraising priorities and portfolios.
- Compose compelling donor stories, posts and articles of varying length and style for Foundation communication vehicles including internal and external e-newsletters, annual reports, publications, websites, news releases, social media posts, paid advertisements and newspaper supplements/inserts etc.
- Develop suggested speaking remarks for donors and Foundation and Hospital executives for internal and external events and gift announcements.
Skills Required:
- Diploma/degree in communications, marketing, fundraising or PR discipline
- 5+ years of relevant experience in a healthcare, not for profit, or similar environment
- Superior writing, spelling, proofreading and editing skills
- The ability to distil complex information into engaging content for donors and the community
- Microsoft Office Suite & Content Management System (CMS) proficiency
- Knowledge of social media and communications best practices and emerging trends
- Proficiency with WordPress, Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, Sprout Social, or similar platforms
- Eagerness and enthusiasm for fundraising communications, and a can-do attitude
- Superior interpersonal skills and impeccable judgement
