Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is seeking a temporary, full-time Parks Worker to join the Parks team for the spring/summer season. This is a fantastic opportunity for a student or anyone looking for active, outdoor work this summer.
Under the general direction of the Parks Foreman and reporting to the Manager of Community Services, the Parks Worker will support the Parks department by maintaining streetscapes, trail systems, playgrounds, fields and public gardens. Duties will include gardening, watering, mulching, operating power equipment such as line trimmers and push mowers, painting, garbage collection and other general labour duties as required.
Required Competencies
Must be capable of physical labour in an outdoor working environment and be able to push, lift and carry moderately heavy weights. Applicants must have a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude; the ability to communicate effectively; the ability to work independently, experience in safe operation of a pickup truck, and possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract.
Preferred Competencies
Ability to organize and schedule work independently and work with minimal supervision; additionally, the capability of establishing working relationships within the District of Sechelt’s services.
Working Conditions
This is a temporary, full-time unionized position within the BCGEU. The expected duration of this position is from May through August 2026. The wage for the position is set at Grid 2, $22.20 – $23.44 per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week and will include one weekend day. The successful candidate will be required to work on the Canada Day statutory holiday.
