Do you have an interest in public contact work in a policing environment? The City of Burnaby is looking for Telephone Operator Receptionists to work on an auxiliary basis. This is public contact work involved in operating and answering a telephone system at the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. Specifically, this position takes calls and transfers to the appropriate Department or individual, provides information and direction to the public over the telephone and performs various clerical duties. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation including or supplemented by telephone/switchboard operation and typing training plus some related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicant will have sound knowledge in the operation of a multi-line switchboard system and of the functions, regulations and rules governing Police Department operations and activities, as well as have strong written and verbal communication skills. An incumbent will have the ability to deal effectively with the public, staff and officials in supplying information and assistance related to departmental operations and speak distinctly with a good telephone manner. Ability to perform routine clerical and typing assignments and operate standard office equipment. Successful applicants must obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Pay Rate:
$26.18 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
$28.05 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2026 Rates)
Location: RCMP Detachment
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on a as needed basis. Typical shifts in this position will be Monday to Sunday between the hours of 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
