The Finance Department is seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk to support the accurate and timely processing of a wide range of accounts payable transactions while also performing cashier duties. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying invoices and credit notes for proper authorization, account allocation, and tax treatment; entering and reconciling invoices against purchase orders; and resolving discrepancies through liaison with departments and suppliers. Duties also include cheque preparation and issuance, maintaining purchase order records, processing daily cash receipts, and responding to public inquiries related to utilities and property taxes. This role contributes to the integrity of the accounts payable system through careful record-keeping, routine reconciliation, and the generation of financial information and reports.
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Operations, this position requires a strong working knowledge of accounts payable practices, as well as a solid understanding of modern office procedures, business English, and effective communication. A sound foundation in double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles is essential, along with the ability to quickly learn and confidently use accounting-specific and municipal financial software.
Our ideal candidate has completed Grade 12, supplemented by coursework in basic accounting and bookkeeping, along with two years of related experience in accounts payable and cashier functions within a customer-facing office environment. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.
