About the Opportunity:
The municipality is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to join its Engineering & Public Works Department. Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Public Works, this position plays a key role in the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure projects that support community priorities and long‑term asset sustainability.
The Project Manager leads projects through all phases, including business case development, design, construction, implementation, and close-out. Projects may include asset renewals such as sewer, storm, and road improvements, new infrastructure initiatives including active transportation facilities, and strategic priority projects identified by Council. This role works closely with Engineering and Public Works leadership, internal staff, consultants, contractors, and community stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a university degree in engineering and be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, and a minimum of five years of directly related experience managing municipal projects; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered, including registration with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC (ASTTBC). A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and experience working within a local government environment are considered strong assets. In addition, the preferred candidate will bring:
- Strong project management expertise, including experience delivering projects through all phases from planning and design through procurement, construction, and close-out
- Demonstrated ability to manage public‑sector procurement and contracts, including tenders, RFPs, consultant agreements, and construction contracts
- Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, internal teams, Council, external agencies, contractors, and the public
- Knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems, including roads, drainage, sewer, water, and active transportation facilities
- Experience supporting organizational and project‑based change, applying change management best practices in a public‑sector context
- Strong financial and budget management skills, including capital budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting
- A commitment to customer service and public accountability, with the ability to respond to community concerns in a professional and solution‑focused manner
