Operations & Maintenance Worker
Nestled within the beautiful Rocky and Purcell Mountains, in the southeast corner of British Columbia, the East Kootenay region is a four-season destination. The region boasts unlimited year-round outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, mountaineering, white-water rafting, and snowmobiling. The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) serves over 60,000 permanent residents and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 seasonal residents. The region is diverse, and home to several unincorporated communities, eight municipalities, and four First Nations communities.
The Regional District of East Kootenay has an immediate opening for an Operations Maintenance Worker to work within the Environmental Services Department. Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the Operations Maintenance Worker performs various operational duties related primarily to the RDEK solid waste systems to ensure public safety and access.
Essential Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of solid waste facilities;
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use various hand tools and power equipment;
- Working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office Programs;
- Good physical condition and able to work in all weather conditions;
- Demonstrated safe work habits;
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
This is a temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) position with an hourly rate of $29.17. The term of employment commences on May 4, 2026 and concludes on August 28, 2026.
