Contract – Child Care Consultant (Health and Safety)

Remote (with travel within Western Canada as required)
Purpose
The Assessment Consultant is responsible for working directly with Service Providing Organizations (SPOs) and funders to assess, support, and strengthen Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) programs. The role focuses on risk assessment, quality improvement, compliance, and capacity building to ensure safe, high-quality, and standards-aligned child care services.
Key Responsibilities
Program Assessment and Quality Improvement
- Conduct assessments of assigned CNC programs to identify potential risks to children’s health, safety, and well-being.
- Collaborate with CNC program staff to develop and implement strategies that address identified risks and strengthen program quality.
- Work with SPOs and funders to ensure compliance with national CNC standards following assessments.
- Prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely reports summarizing assessment findings and recommendations.
- Document all interactions and findings throughout the assessment process in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Provide ongoing support to CNC programs throughout the year, as requested by stakeholders.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of action plans, ensuring activities, timelines, and deliverables meet funding and compliance requirements.
Advisory, Capacity Building, and Research
- Work with stakeholder organizations to support the planning, implementation, and development of programs and services grounded in early childhood development and learning principles.
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of strategic and operational plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Conduct ongoing research to maintain current knowledge of risks, risk management practices, and emerging best practices, informing program assessments and recommendations.
- Present and facilitate workshops and training sessions as required to enhance program capacity and understanding.
Leadership and Communication
- Communicate with authority in a supportive, balanced, and professional manner.

- Provide accurate advice and information based on relevant requirements and standards.
- Investigate and clarify issues, concerns, and complaints; make clear, constructive recommendations and explain them in a way that promotes understanding.

- Collaborate as part of a team to maintain accountability and national quality standards.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to travel to other provinces as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in a child care setting.
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and guidance skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, funders, and public agencies.
- Knowledge and understanding of newcomer populations and settlement services.
- Demonstrated experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Strong technical proficiency with digital systems and software applications.
- Ability to work independently, flexibly, and remotely, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
