This is recreation leadership work implementing a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities across the City of Burnaby! This includes services for children, youth, and adults and seniors. They may supervise Auxiliary and part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers engaged in related tasks. Recreation Leader 2 prepares, leads and promotes interest in individual program plans and schedules and directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends any changes. Participates in the recruitment, training, and evaluating part-time recreation program, auxiliary staff and contract instructors. In the absence of a supervisor, the incumbent assumes responsibility for the operation and security of a recreation facility. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; First Aid and CPR Certificates from Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Ski Patrol, Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. John’s Ambulance are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Incumbents may be assigned to work independently at stand-alone sites where the application of CPR protocols may be necessary. A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Pay Rate:
$31.97 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
$34.25 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2026 Rates)
Location: Various Burnaby Locations (successful applicants may be placed in any of the following locations: Arena, large multi-complex facility, or smaller standalone community building)
Hours of Work: This is an auxiliary position with hours and shifts based on operational requirements. As such, there are no guaranteed hours of work, and shifts may include on-call assignments. Typical shifts are a minimum of four (4) hours and may be scheduled during weekdays and/or weekends.
