About the opportunity:Under the direction of the Manager of Emergency Programs, the local FireSmart Coordinator is responsible for supporting residents and neighborhoods in planning and implementing FireSmart initiatives, including the public education component of the City’s Wildfire Mitigation Program. The FireSmart Coordinator supports community members to proactively mitigate risks to their properties and structures in order to prevent damage from wildfires. FireSmart activities are developed and carried out in accordance with provincial guidelines, FireSmart BC, and the priorities of the City of Prince George. This position is expected to work outside of regular business hours to meet community needs. Performs related duties.
About your background:The ideal candidate will have completed Grade 12, along with one year of post-secondary education in forest technology, natural resource management, structural firefighting, emergency management, or a related field. Completion of FireSmart 101 and Local FireSmart Representative and Wildfire Mitigation Specialist qualification. One year of related experience with FireSmart and Wildfire Mitigation work is preferred. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered. You have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (or out-of-province equivalent). A Police Information Check for offences related to the position is required.
