Nelson Police Department Competition #26NP37The Nelson Police Department invites qualified applicants to apply for the full-time position of Community Safety Officer (CSO).
Community Safety Officers fall under the operational command of the Patrol Division and hold the designation of sworn Special Municipal Constable. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist regular members of the Nelson Police Department by undertaking low-risk, low-priority, and non-investigative tasks that do not require the authority of a fully sworn police constable.
CSOs maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the community, conducting regular foot patrols and engaging with the public to promote safety, awareness, and community well-being. CSOs also support community events and perform proactive duties within the approved guidelines of their designation.
In alignment with the Nelson Police Department's strong model of community policing and 'No Call Too Small' philosophy, CSOs play a key role in enhancing public trust, observing and reporting suspicious activity, and increasing the overall capacity and visibility of police services in the City of Nelson.
You may be eligible if you:- Have a valid Class 5 BC driver's license
- Have your valid First Aid
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Are physically fit
- Post-secondary education, in particular, in justice studies or social work would be considered an asset.
- This position is dependent on grant funding, and thus the applicant{s} must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
Compensation:- $24.00 / hour plus an additional 4% in lieu of benefits
Hours/Days:- Start date of May 15, 2026.
- This position is 40 hours/ week: daily hours may vary based on operational needs
