The City of New Westminster has auxiliary positions available for teaching skating in our 'Learn to Skate' program. There will also be opportunities to lead public skate sessions. Moody Park Arena offers innovative, creative, fun recreational lessons for patrons 2.5 years to adults. We are looking for enthusiastic, organized leaders who have experience coaching or instructing.
Candidates considered for these roles must be available for our summer lesson program which starts July 6. Lessons will be Monday to Friday mornings, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Training will take place during lessons in July. There will be additional off ice training sessions for a few afternoons in July.
Preference will be given to candidates who are available to continue working Fall and Winter.
Successful applicants will possess the following:
- 16 plus years of age.
- Experience working with children in a recreation setting.
- Strong ice skating background.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C Certificate.
- Ability to work effectively within a team setting.
- Ability to prepare and execute daily lesson plans.
- Ability to give written evaluations of students.
- Ability to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Previous related experience or course work within the field of recreation or teaching will be given priority.
* Candidates will be required to work a variety of shifts including mornings, evenings and weekends.
