Fitness Centre Attendant
Posting #PRC2026-28Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture is seeking a Fitness Centre Attendants to join the team. Working under the direction of the Fitness Programmer and Team Leader, Attendants are responsible for monitoring the Fitness Centre and maintaining a safe environment for our patrons. Our Auxiliary staff enjoy a free Staff Pass when they work one shift per week, flexibility in hours to accommodate different lifestyles, a culture that cares about work-life balance, and 14% pay on top of their hourly wage in lieu of benefits. We foster a learning environment and provide you with on-the-job training. RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervise patrons using the Fitness Centre.
- Enforce and educate patrons on our Fitness Centre rules and etiquette.
- Maintain a safe environment for patrons using the Fitness Centre.
- Assist and answer patron’s questions.
- Clean/sanitize equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS- Previous fitness experience in a similar environment.
- Customer service experience.
- Must be a registered BCRPA Fitness Leader in group fitness, weight training, or equivalent.
- Personal Training certificate is an asset.
- Current Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
- Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: This is the applicant’s financial responsibility to obtain this).
HOURS OF WORK |
This is a substitute position and has no set days/times (up to 12 hours/week as
required)
Additional Personal Training hours may be available as needed. Work hours may vary based on operational requirements. |
LOCATION(S) | Oak Bay Recreation Centre & Henderson Recreation Centre |
RATE | Attendant Rate: $23.93/hr ($20.99 per hour plus $2.94 per hour in lieu of benefits – 2024 rates)
Personal Training Rate: $40.48/hr ($35.75 per hour plus $4.73 per hour in lieu of benefits – 2024 rates) |
STATUS | Auxiliary (This is a union position) |
BENEFITS | - 14% in lieu of benefits per hour.
- Staff Membership to drop-in the Fitness Centre, fitness classes, skating, and pool (applicable to employees with 1 or more set shifts per week)
