Ice Maker II
(1 Position – Full Time)
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is now accepting applications for an Ice Maker II position for the Sicamous and District Recreation Centre.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Facilities and under the direction of the Lead Hand, the Ice Maker II is responsible for the day to day operations and maintenance of the Sicamous and District Recreation Centre. This position will perform a wide range of duties in the maintenance, ice making and custodial functions and ensures the safe operations of the facility. The Ice Maker II acts as the Lead Hand (Chief Operating Engineer) in their absence.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Monitors the refrigeration plant and accurately records readings in log books. Reports inconsistencies or issues. Adjusts refrigeration plant controls as directed.
- Monitors the building air temperatures and humidity levels. Reports inconsistencies or issues to the Lead Hand. Adjusts air temperature and humidity levels as directed.
- Operates and maintains ice resurfacing equipment; checks and logs ice depths, adjusts ice depths to maintain optimum thickness, monitors and logs service on the equipment, changes blades and changes propane bottles.
- Performs off-season facility and equipment maintenance, including building repairs and painting
- Acts as the Lead Hand (Chief Operating Engineer) in their absence.
- Provides customer service to the public and user groups.
- Performs daily and scheduled arena janitorial and maintenance tasks in and around the facilities as identified on the task lists.
- Performs a variety of minor building maintenance and handyman work such as dry wall patching, painting, air and brine filter changes, filter changes, lamp replacements, minor sink and toilet repairs, snow removal, and landscape maintenance around the arenas.
- Enforces policies safety regulations.
- Provides access to multi-purpose rooms and assists with the set-up and take down of equipment during special events.
- Maintains accurate log books for snow clearing, accident reporting, ice cleaning, and maintenance tasks.
- Operates Point of Sale Equipment and Scheduling Software as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications- Valid BC Refrigeration Operator Certificate; Power Engineer Fourth Class (or higher) preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in the operation and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, electrical and plumbing equipment and in the manufacture and maintenance of ice.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Employee must be within twenty minutes or less of the Sicamous and District Recreational Centre to respond to emergency call out procedures for the plant.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment, and perform minor repairs.
- Ability to perform manual work and carry heavy objects up to 50lbs.
- A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Must be available for day, evening, and weekend shifts.
