The Infrastructure, Transportation & Parks department is looking for Labourer 2s to work on an auxiliary basis in the Urban Forestry section for approximately 5 months (June – November). In this position, you will primarily be assigned general landscape, horticulture and arboriculture duties, turf maintenance tasks and/or natural areas maintenance. You will perform manual work involving considerable physical effort and agility in parks construction and maintenance tasks as required. Work assignments may also be in any of the Engineering Operations work sections, based on operational requirements.
You will have considerable related experience in parks maintenance and knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general parks maintenance and construction work. Skill in the operation of power and hand tools is required as well as demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labouring/manual work in all types of weather. You must also be able to deal effectively with the public and embrace values such as teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required. Completion of courses leading to a trades qualification, degree, diploma or certificate would be an asset.
Salary:
$33.26 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
(January 2024 rates)
