ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role, you will lead and support brownfield integration activities where new systems must interface with live Eglinton Crosstown LRT (ECLRT) infrastructure. You will work across key subsystems—including signaling, SCADA, telecommunications, and Operations Control Centre (OCC) upgrades—to manage interfaces, assess risks, and resolve technical challenges without disrupting service. Collaborating closely with engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders, you will help ensure system integration is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration of ECWE systems with existing ECLRT infrastructure, ensuring compatibility and minimal service disruption during upgrades.
- Assess brownfield environments to identify integration risks and constraints across signaling, SCADA, telecommunications, and OCC systems.
- Develop and implement system integration and migration plans, including interface definitions, testing strategies, and cutover approaches.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams and external vendors to resolve interface issues and validate integrations through modeling, simulation, and on-site testing.
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate risks related to legacy systems, hardware limitations, software compatibility, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including integration reports, as-built records, and change management logs.
- Support system testing, commissioning, and handover activities to ensure performance, safety, and operational readiness.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams on brownfield integration best practices.
- Participate in project meetings, audits, and reviews to ensure integration activities align with project schedules and objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline; an advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., P.Eng., PMP) is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in systems integration on brownfield rail or transit projects, with demonstrated expertise in signaling, SCADA, telecommunications, and control center systems.
- Strong understanding of rail and transit industry standards (e.g., IEEE, AREMA, or equivalent) and hands-on experience with light rail systems comparable to ECLRT/ECWE.
- Proficiency with system integration tools and software, including simulation and modeling platforms (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), SCADA applications, and IP-based telecommunications networks.
- Experience supporting OCC upgrades, including hardware and software migrations, system cutovers, and cybersecurity considerations.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex technical and interface challenges in live operational environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, project-focused environment with flexibility to support on-site activities, including occasional evening or weekend testing and commissioning.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
