Role Summary:
Dawson Partners (“Dawson”), based in Toronto, is a fast-growing private equity firm focused on accelerating liquidity on private equity portfolios through structured solutions. Dawson seeks to provide customized and flexible liquidity solutions for private equity investors through the use of structured solutions with existing investors or outright purchases of portfolios which are subsequently structured into different securities. The Associate plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the Investment Finance (Open-Ended Funds and Structured Products) team and supporting the firm in achieving its business goals.
Reporting to the Director, Investment Finance (Open-Ended Funds and Structured Products), the Associate is a detail-oriented accounting professional preferably with fund administration experience focused on the private equity, hedge funds and/or alternative asset classes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with external fund administrators on subscription and redemption processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and proper documentation
- Calculate and validate portfolio valuations, management fees and performance fees for each reporting period
- Maintain internal accounting records and record transactions on a daily basis
- Assist in the distribution process, including the calculation and tracking of distribution amounts across multiple series
- Liaise internally and with external trustees to facilitate structured product transactions and ensure proper operational flow
- Prepare and deliver internal and external reporting
- Collaborate with the internal technology team to build and maintain efficient data flows for internal data consumption
- Respond to investor and internal stakeholder queries in a clear, professional, and solutions-oriented manner
- Assist in the annual financial audit and SOC 1 reporting processes
- Assist in onboarding new vehicles
- Prepare and maintain process documentation
- Build and foster strong working relationships with other teams within the firm
- Provide support for ad hoc projects as required.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics; and professional accounting or finance designation (CPA, CFA) considered an asset
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in a private equity firm, including 2+ years of experience in investment or fund accounting in hedge funds, evergreen funds or private equity funds, required
- Experience with series accounting considered an asset
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, especially in the context of evergreen funds and structured products
- A problem-solver with strong business acumen and technical expertise guided by an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to embrace a changing environment
- Strong attention to detail with a mindset for automation and efficiency
- Ability and willingness to take ownership and responsibility of projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a challenging, professional and deadline driven work environment.
- High degree of professionalism and integrity
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Fund Accounting software
