SCOPEWe are seeking a Project Engineer to provide technical and administrative assistance to Sanitary Sewer Section of the Utilities Division. As a key member to our Sanitary Sewer Section, you will provide expertise to assist in the management of one of the largest municipal collection systems in British Columbia. RESPONSIBILITIES- Plan and assess Surrey’s sanitary sewer system using available data, tools, and engineering analysis to support reliable and sustainable service delivery.
- Lead data analysis and reporting for sewer flow, odour control, and overall system performance monitoring.
- Apply GIS and hydraulic modeling tools to evaluate system capacity and inform planning decisions.
- Deliver and contribute to infrastructure planning studies and support capital projects from concept through construction.
- Review development applications and ensure alignment with the City’s long-term servicing and growth strategies.
- Lead or support inflow and infiltration investigations and other source control programs.
- Analyze operational and SCADA data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Manage and coordinate with external engineering consultants, contractors, and internal teams, and review technical reports and designs.
- Manage multiple projects and assignments while contributing to broader engineering, planning, and asset management initiatives.
- Liaise with the public, stakeholders, and internal departments to coordinate work and address sanitary servicing inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- P.Eng. designation; or eligible for registration with EGBC.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of civil engineering, preferably in a municipal environment.
- Is a team player and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Has good problem solving skills, pays attention to details, and can work independently
- Understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications; collect and analyze data.
- Possesses the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Experience with GIS and piped hydraulic models is a benefit.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- A valid and unrestricted driver’s license is required.
OTHER INFORMATIONPay Grade: P2
Rate: $115,641 - $136,048
