Company Description: Darr Welding & Fabricating (DWF) is a locally owned and operated metal fabrication company based in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia, serving residential, commercial, industrial, and government clients. The company specializes in custom fabrication, miscellaneous metal work, and light structural projects. DWF provides a broad range of metalworking services, including CNC plasma cutting, welding and weld repairs, tube and sheet metal bending, and mobile welding. The team works with aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel, maintaining an in-stock inventory that supports small projects.
DWF is seeking a Drafter / CAD Designer / CAD Technician to produce shop drawings and manufacturing drawings for custom steel fabrication projects. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, project managers, estimators, and welders to prepare accurate drawings for fabrication and installation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed fabrication and shop drawings.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD models.
- Review architectural and structural drawings.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, and suppliers.
- Produce material take-offs and bills of materials.
- Revise drawings as required throughout project execution.
- Assist with project documentation when required.
- May be required to visit job sites to measure existing conditions.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD, or related field.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel & Word).
- Ability to read structural and architectural drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical solutions.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to independently research products, materials, fabrication methods, and technical requirements.
- Ability to gather and interpret technical information from manufacturers, suppliers, codes, standards, drawings, and online resources.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Assets
- Experience in related industries such as steel fabrication, structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or welding.
- Experience programming CNC plasma cutting.
- Knowledge of steel connection detailing, welding and fabrication processes.
- Experience producing shop drawings for stairs, railings, platforms, structural steel, and miscellaneous metals.
